TEAMMATE SPOTLIGHT – AL CAMACHO

Meet Al Camacho…

What’s your role at AIRBORNE Tampa?

“Lead Interior Mechanic, I lead a special team of skillful, professional individuals”

 

How long have you worked at AIRBORNE Tampa?

“I’ve been at Pemco since day one, when Pemco opened up in Tampa 12 years ago.”

 

What interest you / how did you get started in aviation?

“In 1987, after high school, I was all set up to start Purchase University, Upstate NY in the fall. My brother and my best friend both worked for Airlines. They both convinced me to get a summer job at an airline. Which I did, got hired by Piedmont Airline, Loved it!  It changed the course of my life.”

 

Do you remember your first flight?

“Let’s change the question a little, my best flight was when I proposed to my wife on a flight from NYC to Orlando Florida.  I had the Pilot propose for me through the speakers. He said ” I would like to announce, that we have a special couple sitting in row 10DEF.  Al and Janette and AL would love to propose to Janette. Can Al please kneel in the center aisle?”  It was Awesome. She was very surprised. While leaving the aircraft, the captain was standing in the front galley with a champagne bottle and gave it to us as a gift.”

 

What’s your favorite vacation or travel spot?

“Puerto Rico, Love the Architecture”

 

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

“Time Traveler”

 

What did you want to be when you grew up?

“Growing up, I watched the Brady Bunch show, so I wanted to be an Architect.”

 

What do you like to do outside of work?

“My family and I enjoy planning and throwing theme parties. From Halloween, Christmas, even 80’s Party. We have had some great once in the past.”

 

What would you tell others interested in working at AIRBORNE Tampa; interested in aviation?

“This is a small industry. If you stay humble and learn as much as you can, stay reliable, you can grow to have a great life within this industry.”

 

What’s your favorite quote?

“We are not an awesome team because we work together. We are an awesome team because we respect, trust and care for each other.”
